Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard Overview and Features

Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard (VMPK) is a versatile MIDI events generator and receiver designed for use on Mac and other platforms. It allows users to play MIDI notes using a computer's keyboard or mouse, making it a practical tool for musicians and composers. While VMPK does not produce sound on its own, it can drive both hardware and software MIDI synthesizers. Additionally, it can display the MIDI notes played from other instruments or MIDI file players by connecting them to its input port.

The software features a modern graphical user interface built on the Qt5 framework, ensuring excellent performance and usability. Users can customize the alphanumeric keyboard mapping and save their settings in XML files. VMPK supports sending program changes and controllers to MIDI synthesizers, with support for various keyboard layouts, including Spanish, German, and French. As an open-source project, VMPK is continuously being developed, with a list of pending features available in its TODO file.
